| Description | The primary aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive account of the life, literary career, and distinctive narrative style of the Czech writer and journalist Bedřich Golombek. Particular attention is paid to the author’s relationship with the city of Brno, and to the role it plays in his works. The paper seeks not only to chart the development of Golombek’s writing, but also to examine the ways in which real, recognizable locations within Brno are incorporated into his literary works as narrative and symbolic spaces. Special attention is given to Golombek’s Co nebude v dějepise (1945) which serves as a case study for analyzing the literary representation of urban space in his writing. The paper explores the significance of Brno’s presence within the novel — both as a realistic, geographical setting and as a metaphorical and mythologized space — and investigates how specific locations within the city contribute to the novel’s overall thematic and symbolic structure. |
