| Description | Contemporary Polish drama is characterized by distinctive features that have emerged prominently since 1989, a pivotal year marking profound political, economic, and cultural transformations. The transition from a totalitarian regime to a democratic society introduced new conditions for literary expression, enabling authors to explore not only innovative themes but also experimental formal techniques. Polish dramatic texts from this period bear testimony to these changes and offer a multidimensional picture of the internal dilemmas of contemporary society, while at the same time dealing with deeper existential and universal questions of human existence. This evolution is exemplified in the texts of three contemporary playwrights: Radosław Maciąg, Anka Herbut, and Malina Prześluga. All three authors have been recipients of the prestigious Gdynia Drama Award (Gdyńska Nagroda Dramaturgiczna), which honors outstanding original Polish dramatic texts. Through an analysis and comparison of their award-winning plays—Tęsknię za domem (eng. I Miss Home, Radosław Maciąg, 2024), Rothko (eng. Rothko, Anka Herbut, 2023), and Jeszcze tu jesteś (eng. You Are Still Here, Malina Prześluga, 2022) - the key thematic topics and stylistic tendencies of contemporary Polish drama will researched, with a particular focus on their formal and linguistic aspects. |
