| Description | The dynamics of Aquilino Ribeiro's novellas can be viewed as divided into three thematic strands: urban themes (“Maga”, from Filhas de Babilónia, 1920), rural themes “Aninhas”, As tres mulheres de Sansao, 1932) and fantastical, legendary, mythological, hagiographical and/or allegorical themes (“O servo de Deus”, O Servo de Deus a A casa roubada, 1941). All the narratives are included in books with the genre designation “Novellas” in the first edition and illustrate the novella genre through their compositional characteristics, such as the division into numbered chapters, average length, small number of characters, cohesion of space-time coordinates, narrative concentration, dramatic tension, and gradation. Within this context, it is analyzed how the archetypal structure of the novellas, highlighted by intertextual dialogue, conveys a specific axiological framework. |
