Description The contribution aims to describe, conceptualize, and compare the main developmental processes and tendencies that led to the formation of Czechoslovak and Yugoslav statehood in the 19th century within their broader Slavic dimension. The various concepts seeking an imagined Slavic unity in both developmental areas were shaped against the backdrop of activities conditioned by a shared tribal identity. However, their internal structure was not as straightforward as it appeared on the surface. They embodied a series of mutual inter-Slavic and intra-Slavic animosities arising from the particular interests of more narrowly defined Slavic ethnic groups. Special attention will therefore be given to key Slavic concepts such as Pan-Slavism, Austro-Slavism, and Pan-Slavic ideals, as well as their related interpretations of the Czechoslovak and Yugoslav ideas in the 19th century.
