| Description | The article deals with selected prose works for youth that have won the Zlatá stuha literary award for works for children and youth in the literary category since 2000. It focuses on two prose works with a distinctive female protagonist, intended for adolescent readers aged twelve and above. Using literary interpretative analysis, the article characterizes the motifs and themes of the stories and follows the paths of psychosocial maturation of the characters during adolescence. It examines the process of identity formation; ways of coping with new social roles, the development of personality characteristics and new skills, and the building of interpersonal relationships. It also deals with the artistic means by which these processes of psychosocial development are captured. The paper is part of a larger dissertation research project and aims to analyze and interpret selected texts from children's and young adult literature; to study the depiction of the process of psychosocial maturation at different ages, from preschool to adolescence, and to compare them with psychological theories of the life cycle – primarily Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. |
