Description The study supports the existence of a close relationship between the distribution of communicative dynamism and the distribution of prosodic prominence. Prominent prosodic features signal the high degrees of communicative dynamism. Intonation is one of the factors of functional sentence perspective. The distribution of prosodic features depends on the result of the interplay of non-prosodic factors, but it also indicates the speaker’s intention in cases when the non-prosodic factors allow dual interpretation. Czech and English do not display any striking differences in the relation between prosodic features and communicative functions.
