Description In our study we deal with the role of situational-cognitive and personality factors in the choice of coping strategies in stressfull situations. We worked with the sample of 170 students (81 males and 89 females in the age of 15 to 19). We used Tobins Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI) supplemented with the scales for the evaluation of the characteristics of situation and Eysencks personality questionnaire (A form). We analyzed only the situations, wchich were appraised at least as averqage stressful. Behaviour under stress is directly influenced only with neuroticismus, which is related to expressing emotion and wishful thinking. With the appraisal of the situation are linked the strategies of problem solving, expressing emotions and self-criticism. Relatively poor links of coping strategies to both personality variables and and appraisal leads us to propose to study wider sample of possible determinants of coping strategies choice.
