Description The author focuses on the problem Vítězslav Novák (1870-1949) as the composer of Art Nouveau and tries to answer the question why Novák is considered to be a composer of this style. Spurný analyses the studies of Czech authors presenting Novák as the composer of Art Nouveau and comes to the conclusion that application of the categories of Art Nouveau to music - as an "ornamental", "figurative", "descriptive" and "abstract" music is too vague.
