Description Czech poet Jan Zahradnicek was arrested by the communist regime in 1951 and in 1952 condemned to 13 year in prison. Before that, he worked with much intensity in translating and correcting Babler's translation of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Zahradníček's participation was never stated for obvious reasons. The study reconstructs the nature and the extend of Zahradnicek's effort and it reveals the great impact of Dante's ethical imagination, versology and eschatology on the final period of Zahradnicek's own poetry, which is one of the greatest in XXth century.
