Citation
Description The work Heartless Mothers? is an empirical study of the lives of women who are giving up their home-care roles at the early age of their child and seek self-fullfilment out of home. By doing this they transcend the socially-constructed norm of motherhood which has stemmed from stereotypical perception of gender roles, the fatality of discourse of the childrens needs and finally on the perception of female connaturality based on motherhood. On the basis of qualitative analysis, well-founded on ten non-structuralised interviews, the mothers were divided into three groups: traditional, transitional and egalitarian, according to their perception of the normatively defined discourse of motherhood. The first cathegory, which most of the women fell into surprisingly, show extensive conformity to the traditionally defined strategy of motherhood. In the framework of conformal accepting of the traditional discourse of motherhood, these women reflect the social pressure on carrying out of their roles of mothers and they legitimize their behaviour by partial modifications of the space of their motherhood. An alternative discourse of motherhood rejecting the effectuality of the traditional pattern has appeared with one of the interviewed women only.
