Description The paper discusses some specific problems of e-learning in the context of higher education. It discusses, among other issues, the inclusion of highly qualified teachers in the process of creating courses and e-tutoring, and the need for intitutional support. The open nature of university education is stressed. This nature should be reflected in a virtual learning environment that offers access not to a limited scope of prescribed study material but rather to an open space of knowledge in the field. E-courses should therefore be, among other features, closely connected to electronic resources such as catalogues, e-libraries and document servers.
