Description Recent research concerning adult education in the Czech Republic has shown that the crucial factor determinig motivation and participation in eduacation among adults is their job-related and occupational context. The text reviews the main variables of this context, also trying to idntify the strength of their impact on general adult participation in education on the example of non-formal education. It also shows how this impact may differ for specific groups of adult population defined by achieved level of aducation, work position, occupational sector etc. The author relates some asúects of this variability to the broader social and economic situation in Czech Republic and to important conceptual and developmental documents with both local and international validity. The empirical component of the text is based on data from a questionnaire survey completed as part of the project "Adult Education in Different Stages of the Life Cycle: priorities, opportunities and potential for development".
