Description The oldest history of the town Kostelec nad Orlicí, documented through archaeological finds only, is connected with the settlement in the area of the brickyard dating back to the periode before the founfation of the town itself. In the end of the 13th century the settlement moved to the space of the today town centre, its wooden buildings respected already the area of the central market place at the edge of which a fortified church was constructed. The chronicle of Zbraslav mentions its siege on January 5, 1316. In the 1320s the town itself was founded on the initiative of the lords of Potštejn, the first mention of this event dates back to 1330. The core of the article is a detailed analysis of three charters from the 2nd half of the 14th century describing property relations between Bohemian rulers and the nobility. Based on the results of this analysis, property rights connected with Kostelec nad Orlicí have been completed and defined more precisely.
