Description The article evaluates the contributions of Václav Černý to the profile of the magazine Host. Between 1926 and 1929, Černý published fourteen essays and twenty-five reviews in Host and in 1929 managed the magazine. The characteristics of the main avant-garde magazines, primarily Pásmo and Host, allow for a comparison of Václav Černý with the opinions and views of Karel Teige and František Götz on modern art: expressionism, Dadaism, surrealism, futurism, ultraism, etc. The analysis attempts to highlight how Černý'approach differs: (1) the inclusion of the avant-garde within a long-term perspective on literary evolution; (2) reflections on continuity/discontinuity and paradigmatic fractures; and (3) the philosophical framework of Václav Černý's critical thinking and his considerations of the ontological and noetic aspects of the decline of an essentialist world view in modern poetry.
