Description In this article the author has outlined two older complexes of opinions of language and communication which noticed as well as contemporary communicatively oriented linguistics, pragmatic, cognitive and cultural characters of verbal activity of human being. There is concerned classic rhetoric and theories of Wilhelm von Humboldt. At their critical reflection we find continuity of the view of a text as a unity of form, content and extralinguistic context the variety of which is an image of variety of interpersonal relations and heterogeneity of individual spheres of human activity. This continuity reminds us at the same time that in linguistic research a human being and his/her language in the context of world in which he/she lives, should be the focus of attention in the linguistic research.
