Description The monograph was published under the terms of the research project GA401/08/0915 "Hermeneutika, pragmatismus a soudobá filozofie v USA".The author of the monograph provides readers with detailed depiction, analysis and evaluation of Richard Rorty's work. He assesses positively Rorty's conception of development of thought occidental tradition and his experimental approach to philosophy that he inherited from pragmatism. To facilitate background of Rorty's thinking, the book includes two chapters that characterize main features of pragmatism. In the last, critical chapter, the author criticizes blind spots of Rorty's thoughts coming from exaggerated emphasis on language and its role in human life. According to the author, the emphasis originates in Rorty's analytical education. The blind spots cause inconsistences and impracticability of - by Rorty suggested - solutions of troublesome situations. Though Rorty is criticized in the monograph, the author presents him as one of the more inspiring thinkers of the 2nd half of the 20th century.
