Description Map abstraction of reality is usually better to other media and it is easier to perceive included spatial information. This fact makes map convenient for some special segments of human society e.g. field of emergency management, transportation, etc. It is very important to understand to process of reading and understanding of map representations during various situations. There are significant differences between various users related to actual circumstances. Differences can be caused by used cartographic method or lack of time. Whence it follows that specific situation needs specific map representation. This article aims on problem of testing of human practice of reading and understanding of maps and evaluation of results with the emphasis on externality of the testing process. It means that results cannot be based only on subjective opinions of tested participants. Results of the testing will be used for construction of suitable maps for various situations and at the end there should be software tool which possibly enable creation of some standardized testing sets. There will be developed standardized research methodology for exploration of cognitive map reading process. Results are validated by statistical analysis tools using combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Thoroughgoing insight to the process of perception by different groups of users, allow increasing of map information transmission efficiency importantly during crisis situations.
