Description The study is focused on oldest Czech words (bohemika) as they can be found in oldest Latin documents relating to the Czech territory, published in Codex diplomaticus et epistolaris regni Bohemiae Vols. I–VI. The study pays attention to two main topics: 1. Evaluation of the Czech words in the selected sources. The study proves that important data (relating e.g. to the authenticity of the particular materials) are often missing, when the Czech words are presented, incorrect data relate also to the number of Czech words (in fact there are many more of them than stated in the sources). 2. The analysis of graphic presentation of sounds ř, č and diphthongs ě/ie. Conclusions prove that the development from the graphics of the 10th-13th ct., i.e. from the period of isolated Czech words, to the formation of a well developed system of digraphs in the 14th century was not as fluent as it is sometimes stated in literature, since ways other than those that became the basis of the digraphic system of orthography were used in the previous periods to write down the above-mentioned sounds.
