Description The aim of the publication is to clarify the nature of social and cultural transformations which made the using of inspiration from Asian cultures in personal live styles of Europeans/Czechs possible. It is a social-historical analysis of modernization in Czech lands based on qualitative study of numerous sources produced with reference to Czech occultists. In it perspective on modernization of the Czech society it emphasizes those aspect of the process which in mainstream sociology are somewhat neglected: especially the importance of the development of media market and the use of print. With reference to this it also provides somewhat different narration concerning the secularization: within modernization process, as it shows, religion has not started to disappear, on the contrary, it this process religion came to existence.
