Description The article deals with the French colonisation in 1770s in the defunct village Cejc in the Hodonin estate, that was owned by the imperial family. A group of French from Franche Comté came to Moravia invited by an open letter to move and live on the Habsburg imperial property. The first information concerning the colonists were published by Moravian writer Jan Herben in the early 1880s. The author of this article together with his colleague Libor Jan confirmed the memories of Herbenís informant and based on study of parish registers of Besancon as well as Hovorany and Kobyli, to which parish Cejc belonged, proved reliably the origin of Cejc colonists in the village of Déservillers (the Dorna estate) and several nearby villages. The article describes the gradual assimilation of the French colonists in the Moravian environment.
