Description Rice is a multi-agent system designed for simulation of processes in electric power networks. Rice allows statistical processing and prediction of values connected with the reliability and economic parameters of a power network based on actual network components and their characteristics. Rice is valuable in the process of measuring reliability of a particular power network with the connection to the Ostrava database of failures with more than 300.000 records of particular network components. Rice is able to identify, for an exact network schema, the weak point(s) in the network with the percentage estimation of its failures. Rice is also able to predict and compute overall economic aspects of a certain power network with simulated network outages in a long period of simulated time (tens of years). From the technical point of view, the system is built in a distributed environment using computer network standards TCP/IP and CORBA for message flow between the components with central name server and register server. The distributed manner of the system allows flexible deployment of Rice from a single computer up to a hybrid system of distant computer networks and real power component monitors.
