Description This article analyses from a sociological perspective (drawing on Bourdieu’s theory of social fields) the dynamics of incorporation of literary artefacts to the Western Literary Canon, focusing on the work of Espinosa. After an introduction to the main traits of Espinosa’s novels, the article analyses Harold Bloom’s theoretical construction of The Western Canon, establishing the ideological connections between that theory and the logic of the academic and literary fields. Finally, it explains how the work of Espinosa has been incorporated in the Spanish Literary Canon by one sector of the academic field in Spain.
