Citation
Description The chapter introduces new discipline within humanities – software studies – as an effect of the currant situation, which is described by scholars as a post media age. Software studies can be understood as an alternative approach to the definition of new media which will replace the traditional one, media-centric explanation. The software studies initiative comes in the moment when we see on a one hand ubiquity of new media in our culture and on the other hand the lack of critical discourse of professional programmers, computer scientists, creative users, artists, and hackers. From new media art theory point of view the focus on software signifies understanding of new media within frame of 20th century experimental art, within categories as concept, process (vs. product), context and environment.
