Description Cardinal Francis Dietrichstein (1575–1636) was one of the key figures in Central Europe in the first decades of the 17th century. This study deals with the highest level of Dietrichstein’s religious existence: his cardinalship and his rapports with the Roman Curia and its intermediaries throughout Italy. One of the most important people among the intermediaries was Jacomo Olivieri, who wrote about 350 letters to Dietrichstein. The relations with the Roman Curia can be regarded as crucial for Dietrichstein’s professional life and can be further researched.
