Description The contribution discussed the role of the syllable in the description of the phonotactics of languages. It presented arguments why the syllable is used for this purpose, but also showed on various language its deficiencies. In the second part the contribution outlined how the phonotactics of Czech can be described upon the model known as distributional unit.
