At its meeting on 23 October 2023, the Academic Senate of the MU Faculty of Arts approved the application for an extension of the doctoral study programs Aesthetics and Cultural Studies in Czech and English version, which had been recommended for revision at the previous meeting. The staff lists and the overview of the publication activities of the supervisor and tribal supervisors were updated.

The Dean's intention to appoint doc. Mgr. Pavel Caha, Ph.D., a vice-dean for research and project activities as of 1 January 2024, was also approved. The current vice-dean for this agenda, prof. Spurný, will terminate his activity at the end of the year.

Based on the request of the Dean of the Faculty and given the upcoming elections, the issue of a more equal representation of men and women in the Senate was discussed. As a result, a resolution was adopted:

The AS notes that its composition is gender imbalanced and will, therefore, initiate an analysis of the causes of this situation and will try to do everything possible to correct it in future elections.

The Senators also supported the Dean's proposals to allocate the remaining funds from the budget reserve to reward outstanding academics whose departments have no money to pay them. The Dean will draft the criteria for the awards.

In the context of the forthcoming Senate elections (the mandate of the current Senate expires in May 2024), the composition of the Electoral Committee was renewed so that it would not include anyone who intends to stand for election himself. The new composition of the committee will be:

  • doc. PhDr. Václav Štěpánek, Ph.D.
  • Mgr. Mgr. Karolína Stehlíková, Ph.D.
  • Mgr. Martin Březina
  • Mgr. et Mgr. Tomáš Weissar
  • Mgr. et Mgr. Stanislav Hasil

By the next meeting, the committee will prepare a schedule of elections, collection of candidatures, and its promotion.

A discussion followed on the events organized within the framework of the warning strike of the Hour of Truth initiative.

Finally, the Senate supported the open letter to the President and the Government of the Czech Republic regarding marriage for all.

The detailed course of the meeting of the Senate is recorded in the minutes.

The next meeting of the Senate will be held on 20 November 2023.
