Workshop Cultural history of beer

  • 1 October 2021
    9:30 AM – 8:00 PM
  • room B2.13, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Arna Nováka 1, Brno

The connection of beer with the history of the Czech lands goes back to ancient times. Throughout our rich history, this drink has evolved and changed, but the essentials have remained. Beer is a crucial part of Czech culture, and therefore it is beneficial to talk about it at a professional level as a part of cultural history. That is why we decided to organize a workshop about the Cultural History of Beer, which will bring together experts from various fields and present their views on beer as a cultural drink. We invited a wide range of people who are interested in beer as our guests. Their presence will help us create a unique space for discussion between scientists, beer producers and the general public.

The core of the whole event will be a lecture block, which will feature not only historians, linguists and philosophers but also people, who are directly involved in the production of beer. There will be ample space for discussion during the lecture blocks. At the end of the lecture block, we will present our beer, which was brewed according to a recipe from the beginning of the 19th century, which you can taste as well.

Our workshop will also include an accompanying program, like the stands of two Moravian breweries, presented in the courtyard of the faculty.

We believe that the Culture History of Beer will offer a balanced blend of professional discussion and a friendly chat over a glass of good drink. For capacity reasons, please register at the e-mail address zajic.l@mail.muni.cz.
