I intend to pay attention to two areas of research of thought experiments: to their epistemic value (i.e. if and why can be hypothetical cases informative) and to their argumentative value (i.e. if and why can be hypothetical cases persuasive). Research will be carried out in three fields: cognitive force - structure of thought experiments - analysis of selected thought experiments in philosophy of mind and epistemology. The empiricist conception of thought experiments as the instances of specific schemes or specific rebuttals plays a key role in my research. I will reconstruct a general argumentative scheme of offensive and defensive experiments, identify its critical questions and offer a tool for thought experiment analysis and evaluation.
