Description In recent years we can observe an increasing interest of new media theorists in the methodological tools they use. The definition of new media, understood as programmable media working in real-time, has expanded within software studies discourse, and weakened the authority of methodological arsenal of film studies, literary studies, or visual culture. Information technology as programmable media leads us rather towards emphasizing links between new media art and Live arts of the second half of the 20th century. Attention turns to process, participation, reception and new media artwork dual existence as a script, score, manual, program, algorithm, software, or documentation, and its (re) performance. In this paper I will present the current debate on specific features of new media art methodology (E. Shanken, H. Jenkins, M. Fuller), which demonstrates the need for newly formulated research methods of new media art as a part of discussion on new media art as a separate discipline.
