Description This article provides a general overview of the most important events that are associated with the rich local theatrical history. The known and published reports show that Mikulov, as an important South Moravian town, was one of the significant theatrical centers in the first half of the 17th century. The theatre culture was particularly flourishing at the castle and scholastic institutions. Thanks to its location on the road from Brno to Vienna, travelling theatre companies which belonged to the best of that time, very often stopped in Mikulov. There was also a developing civic theatre culture, based mainly on activities of musical societies, since the second half of the 19th century.
