Description In the article the core lexicon of Beja is collected from both (almost) complete or modern and from fragmentary or outdated records. From them ten richest sources served as a base of the lexicostatistic comparison with a glottochronological interpretation. The result, i.e. the beginning of disintegration dated to the early 9th century, is fully comparable with the time depth of the Oromo dialect continuum. If two most incomplete or deviant sources, namely Munzinger and Bender, are excluded, the common share for the remaining idioms is c. 95% or higher. It implies the beginning of their disintegration around AD 1200. This younger result better agrees with at least partial intelligibility between the tribal dialects of Beja.
