Description The study explores the prevalence of a specific type of behaviour – self-harm – in a non-clinical population of children attending later grades of primary school, taking a look at the frequency of occurrence and possible causes of this phenomenon, different forms of self-harm, potential gender differences (see Kvernmo & Rosenvinge, 2009; Whitlock, 2010; etc.), and other significant connections. Our main goal was to describe the issue of self-harm in the Czech context and expand on the knowledge yielded by previous qualitative research (Havelková, 2009; Černá, 2008; Krieglová, 2009; Franců, 2006) as well as our own preliminary studies. The measures used in the present exploratory study included the Self-Harm Inventory (Sansone, Sansone & Wiederman, 1995), the Self-Harm Behavior Questionnaire (Gutierrez, 2001), and a newly designed questionnaire capturing the abovementioned variables. The conference contribution will present the results of recently conducted data analysis.
