Description The study deals with the Brno Rosicrucian society, the existence of which is delimited by the turn of the year 1744. Extensive materials produced for this case by provincial and central Habsburg authorities enable us to describe the basic rituals and ideas of the members of the society, analyse the attitudes of individual participants (members of the brotherhood, officials, lawyers, the sovereign, church representatives), and think about the possibilities of interpretation of the whole case in the context of period political, religious, and general cultural situation. It seems that the Brno case can be seen as a part of a certain transitory stage between the still "Baroque", sacralized system of criminal justice and Enlightened absolutism separation of religious offences from violations of social order, which can be found in statute books from the 1780s.
