| Description | The purpose of the presented article was to summarize the most important historical information about the hydronym Albis / Elbe / Labe and hydronyms formed from the same root, to discuss problems of their word formation and finally to evaluate various etymological attempts with respect to semantic typology. Two solutions seem to be more satisfactory than others: "white" etymology proposed by Hans Krahe and "slowly-streaming" etymology of Wolfgang Schmid. |
