| Description | Herta Müller was born in Niţchidorf in Romania, where she belonged to the German minority Banat Swabians. Because of her literary work she was constantly persecuted and humiliated by the Securitate. Threat and almost daily fear for her own life, under the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu, is reflected in her works. This theme is also closely related in her novel Herztier (in English published as The Land of Green Plums), which is at the same time the main core of this thesis. |
