Description The contribution was aimed at presenting work-in-progress on my project aimed at internet of things in company networks and systems with specific focus on the regulatory framework in relation to the needs and possibilities of the small and medium businesses. The project features multidisciplinary aspects from the area of IT law, cybersecurity and law & economics. The first part of the contribution was devoted to the identification of specific aspects of small and medium business networks with integrated internet of things devices, which should to be taken into consideration by the regulator. The anticipated issue of insufficient capacity of the small and medium businesses to comply with general rules for network security represented the core of the argument. The following part then focused on current regulatory approaches to the internet of things in company networks, reflecting upon the role of industrial self-regulation, its benefits and drawbacks. The closing remarks were devoted to the definition of factors, which could improve the regulatory settings to better account for the specifics of the security of the modern small and medium business networks.
