| Description | In the present study five names of the Aral Sea were analyzed. Three of them seem to be of Iranian origin, reflected in Young Avesta, Ancient and Chinese sources. The oldest Chinese name is an appellative, i.e. descriptive. The youngest one, used till the present time, is of Turkic origin. |
