Description This paper presents the first Slovak translation of a text named Fukan zazengi, Dogen’s meditation manual. Fukan zazengi can be literally translated as “On General View on Zazen,” or more simply as “On Meditation for All.” It is a text written in literary Chinese and the first that Dogen authored after his return from China in 1227. True to its title, Fukan zazengi introduces the main practice of Zen schools in Japan, sitting meditation. It is the very first meditation manual written in Japan, explaining and describing what zazen is, how it is done, how it came about and what its effects are. Fukan zazengi is also a text in which Dogen introduces Zen itself; it presents Zen as a tradition of Zen ancestors and masters, expounding its core ideas.
