Description Empirical research of generativity focuses rather on relation to positively defined characteristics. However, its theoretical framework, as well as limited research focusing on relationship with less desirable variables, point to their significant association. Therefore, the aim of our research was to explore the relationship between generativity and the three Dark Triad traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. The sample consisted of 294 adults aged 25 to 65 (m = 44.6 years, 174 women) who completed questionnaires regarding generative concern (LGS), and dark triad (SD3). Generativity positively correlated with narcissism and negatively with Machiavellianism. Since men and women differed in some of the examined variables (i.e. generativity, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy), we looked into whether the relationships between the variables were different. The relationships corresponded with the overall results in women; in male subsample generativity did not show negative relationship with Machiavellianism, but we found positive correlation with psychopathy. Comparing the correlation between generativity and dark personality traits in men and women, we found significant differences across all variables. In men, narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy explained a higher proportion of variability in generative concern than in women.
