Description The aim of the text is the interpretation of the novel Anđeo atentata by Svetislav Basara, namely one of his many layers based on the depiction of the South Slavic people, especially the Serbs, in the period before, during and after the First World War. We focus on the narrative perspective, which is strongly personalized and tied to the fictional personality of Franz Ferdinand, successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne. The novel reveals not only neuralgic points and stereotypes of the Slavic Balkan nations, but also points out, perhaps in an unintentional way, the current postmodern situation in which key concepts such as truth or objectivity lose their contents and become emptied. In the final part of the text we would like to present our own interpretation of the novel based on the narrator’s characteristics and his relations to the contemporary world. At the same time, this interpretation is a reminder of the significance of the novel the modern world and its ability to speak about the world through artistic stylization.
