| Description | More and more students enroll in higher education in mature age. Naturally, this brings challenges not only to so-called "non-traditional" or "mature" students but also to universities. We can presume that much of what we know about the needs of traditional university students will not apply to people with more extensive professional and life experiences. In our study, we will focus on perceptions of the quality of higher education by mature students. More precisely, we will answer the question of how the notion of the quality of their studies is constructed among mature students. As to methodology, our study is based on a qualitative research approach. Six focus groups and 28 individual semi-structured interviews with mature students of educational programs were collected between the years 2018 and 2020. Initial and selective coding was appointed to analyze our data. We claim that mature students' perceptions of the quality of their studies is constructed by four pillars. These are perceived helpfulness, perceived level of demand, perceived meaningfulness of the studies, and perceived instructional quality. We will describe what is important for students' perceptions of quality in these pillars. |
