Description Metal has been established in Czechoslovakia already during the communist regime and despite various periods of expansion and decline, today it is one of the most important musical subcultures in Czechia and Slovakia. The conference aims to discuss past and present Czech and Slovak metal scenes. Papers at the conference may address the following topics: development of the Czech and the Slovak metal scenes, leaders, infrastructure, focus, issues, the relationship of metal to the "mainstream", social perception of metal, Czech / Slovak metal and radicalism and extremism. Contributions regarding the relationship of metal to religion and religion / spirituality in metal (for example, Satanism or Paganism) in the Czech and Slovak environment are especially welcome. However, more general contributions may be accepted, which address, for example, the concept of metal as a religion or various theoretical and methodological issues of metal studies. The conference is conceived as multidisciplinary. Thus, participants across disciplines (musicology, sociology, anthropology, etc.) with various theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of metal can apply.
