Description The paper focuses on the role the so called memory institutions in the civic education in der contexts of the changing contemporary historical culture. Based on the comparation with the situation in Germany, resp. in Poland, the paper surveys the weak position and institutional background of the civic education in Czech Republic, especially on the regional level. The closing remarks are dealing with touching the possibile involvement of the traditional institutions as regional museums and archives.
