| Description | The lecture is based on the iconographic analysis of the Romanesque church Notre Dame la Grande in Poitiers, specifically of its sculptural frieze on the western façade (1100 - 1130) and the frescoes in the presbytery. The aim of the lecture is to present this visual program as a "scenographic setting" for the period production of the liturgical drama called "Ordo Prophetarum" from the 12th century. Thus, I will focus on questions such as: To whom was the hypothetical theatrical production intended? Who could have implemented it and for what purpose? Could the preserved decoration function as a reminder of a specific production long after its end? |
