Citation
Description The Amorphousness of New Objectivity in Photography represents one of the three main chapters of a book focused on various aspects of realism in interwar art. In connection of modern realisms we understand photography as a medium that fundamentally transformed contemporary art and visuality – bearing in mind that the words “realism” and “realist” were used differently in interwar photography than they were in fine art. One umbrella term used to describe photography in the interwar period was “New Photography,” which shared with modern realisms a focus on modern life. The first part of the text is dedicated to the situation on the German scene, the second to the domestic one, examining both individual authors and individual photographs, more generally, acceptance, rejection or modification of principles associated with photography of nová věcnost / neue sachlichkeit / new objectivity.
