Description What does it mean when a genre is indigenous, and is it even possible to talk about the indigenousness of a genre? This paper will try to find at least a partial answer by using the example of comics from the former Yugoslavia. In the post-Yugoslavian comics milieu, it is not uncommon to find the claim that partisan comics should be such an autochthonous genre. But is this really the case? The existing works that have been devoted to the phenomenon of partisan stories rather speak against this claim, or rather complicate the problem of the autochthonousness of partisan comics (but also of film or literature). Our ambition, therefore, is to shed some light on this ambivalent chaos and to try to decide as clearly as possible whether guerrilla comics have autochthonous features or whether they are just tinsel attributed to them by their fans and interpreters.
