Description This study examines the performance of self-praise in the self-presentation of fashion and lifestyle bloggers. Firstly, the data consisting of 1,000 Instagram posts were coded for the presence/absence of self-praise. Afterwards, any strategies employed for the mitigation of the face threat that self-praise represents for the poster and their followers were examined. While the analysis did reveal some instances of self-praise bald on record, self-praise is shown to be frequently modified or performed implicitly in the material. Taking the multimodality of Instagram posts into account, the study argues that the preference for the implicit and modified self-praise in the caption is strategic as it helps obstruct the image of a narcissist blogger that the accompanying photo might paint.
