Description We present the results of a study based on experimental design in this paper. The intervention aims to implement dialogic teaching into literature classes for sixth-grade elementary school pupils. We monitor changes in both the quantity and quality of student participation in classroom dialogue at the individual and class levels. The data sample consists of six experimental and six control classes. We also pay discuss the extent to which student participation in classroom dialogue (and possibly its change) can be explained by the teacher’s talk moves and pupils’ characteristics.
