| Description | Of course, the paradoxical genre of ekphrasis, which describes works expressed by another art form, has been reflected upon and explored many times in the past. In my paper, however, I want to focus on ekphrasis as a key to unraveling mysteries, that is, as a tool of investigation of a detective nature. From the Czech milieu I have chosen Ladislav Fuks' novel The Picture by Martin Blaskowitz, and from contemporary world literature I will talk about the book Grandhotel Europe by the Dutch author Ilja Leonard Pfeiffer, whose central motif is the search for a painting by Caravaggio. Using these and other selected literary texts, I will highlight the importance of ekphrasis in the context of mystery solving and its function as a catalyst for these suspenseful situations. |
