Description | The paper summarizes the research results in the so-called learning transfer, which is the transmission of knowledge or processes from one situation to another. Specifically, it focuses on research on Latin-related transfer. Most studies have been carried on in the USA, and their quality and results vary. Still, they only show conclusive evidence of a positive effect of learning Latin on developing English vocabulary. As for general critical thinking development, Latin seems beneficial only in specific circumstances. However, some European studies do not confirm this at all and instead demonstrate a negative transfer when learning the Romance language. In the Czech context, similar research is completely lacking. |
